INTRODUCTION

CopySafe will protect images and other content, making them safe from all avenues of saving, printing and capture. The most sophisticated of the Artistscope image encryption systems, CopySafe uses a special plugin to protect the images from screen capture, and is available in several forms to suit different applications.

COPYSAFE SITE LICENCE

The CopySafe software is available for use on any web site. It is a Windows program that is used for preparing the secure images for use on the Internet, and includes many features such as image encryption, multi-registry for use with registered web sites, batch file import and processing, features for displaying status messages and trim, plus different display options such as swap-image, image-text, text-image or a static hyperlink which can be targeted for framesets. It is an independent program not needing server side includes, and will run from any web site or folder on the Internet.

OVERVIEW

Up until now artists and photographers have found that the safest place for images is not on the Internet. To most surfers, the Internet is seen as a vast resource for free images and clip art to be used in unrelated projects. Stolen images have been used in bogus portfolios and even entered into contests and won prizes, all without the knowledge of the real copyright owner.

The means available for copying images from the web are numerous;

Saving from the web page by right click mouse action.
Saving the page in IE5 grabs all images including backgrounds.
Directly linking to where the image is stored on the server.
From browser cache or the Temporary Internet Folder.
Screen capture programs and PrintScreen.

HOW IT WORKS

When a visitor goes to a CopySafe page, they are free to browse, but are not able to copy the images in any way. CopySafe creates a totally secure environment. The visitor is invited to download the CopySafe plugin so that they may continue browsing and view the images. The plugin download is very quick and installation in most browsers is almost seamless. The images that sit on the server are encrypted and domain locked to keep them perfectly safe, even from the webmaster.

CopySafe content can be delivered from a normal web page on any server. Or it can be delivered on the fly using cgi, sql, etc. With custom editing, CopySafe can enable you to protect all of your page content including text and other page content. 

The CopySafe system has been designed for sustained security across all Windows platforms. To maintain that the system keeps abreast of the ever changing technology of the Internet, and new threats as they arise, the CopySafe system interacts with registration servers so that each time the visitor returns to your page, their plugin is checked, and if an upgrade is available it will be installed automatically.

LIMITATIONS

CopySafe is aimed at maximum security for images on the Internet with no tolerance for misadventure. The mechanisms and sequences are designed so that the many options for obtaining images are as restricted as possible, and your visitors should be cautioned accordingly. You are also warned that while you are evaluating our online demonstrations, that by crossing browsers and trying to use devices that may be a threat to the image's security, that you may suffer discomfort and system difficulties. Be assured that no damage is done to your system, and if you do get locked, simply shut down and restart.

If after any misadventure, you find that you can no longer view the images, try a fresh Reload of the page while holding down the Shift key... and view only!

CopySafe will support all popular Windows browsers, but there is no support for Mac computers. Nor will there be as Mac users are such a minute percentage of the net traffic, that the consideration and development cost will never be justified. We already know this from past experience, and recommend that any artist, web designer or developer wishing to avail themselves of all the resources on the web should be using Windows.
